How long will it take to complete the project?
Projects are typically broken down into four (4) phases. The first phase is the initial appointment. The second is the design – where selections, scheduling and the permit process begins. The third phase is site preparation and construction of the project based on Phase I and II. The fourth and final phase is Phase IV – Quality Control. That is the end result where we will walk through your job with you prior to the last inspection to be certain everything meets with your approval. We will provide a professionally written and accurate construction schedule at the time of contract signing for your reference and appropriate written documentation along the way. You will know what is happening and when every step of the way.
Does Hafer Construction, Inc. do the work in- house or do you work with subcontractors?
Both – our skilled carpenters have over 50 years of combined experience in the industry. Our owner, project manager and carpenters all have very high standards of excellence in their workmanship. We also have a great resource of qualified and licensed professionals and tradesmen to complete the electrical, plumbing, HVAC and other special requirements for your project. These specialty trades have been working with us for many years and know our expectations even before you sign a contract with us.
Is Hafer Construction, Inc. insured and bonded?
We use Hartford Insurance to carry all of our workmen's compensation and general liability insurance has $1-$3 million coverage. A copy of our insurance certificate and VA State Class A license is available to you at the time of contract for your project, as requested.
What is the cost vs. value for the remodeling projects you do?

Do we need a permit?
Yes, Hafer Construction, Inc. will provide all of the necessary documentation and submit the applications for permits. In addition, we are responsible for pulling all permits required by law in both the state and county jurisdictions. Any permit fees are included in the written estimate and work proposal. There are no added fees to you for this service.
Can I make changes to the design as we go?
Some changes are almost inevitable in the course of remodeling your home. We will not penalize you with change order fees. However, we do ask that the cost of the extra work is added to the final price of the project. A written change order with priceand schedule additions will be provided and mutually agreed upon to ensure it fits properly into your desired end result.
Is it dusty to have a remodeling project done or a basement finished?
Hafer Construction, Inc. prides itself and takes extra care to reduce the amount of dust that can travel to the rest of the house. Because we do this everyday, we recognize the challenges of living in a home during the construction process. One of the many ways is to create a negative air flow by temporarily installing fans in the window wells, pulling fresh air through the basement and pushing dusty air outside of the house. We make sure your home and our construction area is neat and tidy each day before we leave the job site.
What causes the price to fluctuate?
There are several factors that can affect pricing. The basic rule of thumb is when the ratio of square footage of footprint to linear footage of wall decreases, the price per square foot increases. Product quality also affects the cost per square foot. We have developed a baseline founded on the value of product and household brand names used by the building industry. Our baseline products have been time-tested and are available locally. We also have sample projects we can show you at your request as well as our showroom.
